Missy's Hope 5K Run/Walk

Missy's Story

Melissa “Missy” Charboneau was a talented and caring nurse and a dedicated mother. Missy’s story is very similar to that of many women who experience domestic violence except that in her case it became lethal. She did everything right: she reported the violence to the police, she sought a domestic violence protective order and she was taking steps to live the fulfilling and healthy life she envisioned for herself and her child. Like many families, Missy’s family and friends were surprised to learn about the domestic violence. Her friends have come together with the YWCA to honor her memory as the smart and amazing woman she was while providing financial support for her child. The funds raised in Missy’s honor will also benefit other victims of domestic violence who need emergency help to get and stay safe in their relationships. In the month Missy lost her life, two other NH women also were killed by their intimate partners. With access to non-judgmental and appropriate resources, it is the hope that no other victim will lose their life to domestic violence.
